SECOND DAY ALL SYSTEMS GO IN THE EASTERN CAPE

The second day of the new millennium has come still not a single reported Y2K related problem in all municipalities of the province. The
Disaster Management Operation Centre in Bisho continues to receive twice each day verified reports from municipalities, District Councils
and Regional Disaster Management Operation Centres that it is still ‘all systems go. The reports are in turn forwarded to the
national operation centre in Pretoria.

Reported power failures were caused by bad weather conditions and not Y2K related. Such reported cases were also promptly address by Eskom.

The Provincial Disaster Management Operation Centre, based in the Department of Housing and Local Government in Bisho is the overall
coordinator. The Centre links up on regular basis over the critical period (i.e. December 31, 1999 up to January 5, 2000) with other
operation centres established in five regions, in District Council Offices and also local authorities.
